Many of our patients are interested in submitting claims to their insurance companies. Below is some general information about insurance billing for biomedical treatment. You can also visit InsuranceHelpForAutism.com for more information about insurance billing.
GENERAL INFORMATION
When you submit a claim to your Insurance Company, keep in mind that you will need the following information:
- Patient's name
- Patient's ID #, Group #, and a copy of your insurance card
- Date of Service and dollar amount of charges, along with the receipt from the office
- CPT & ICD-9 codes (with some exceptions)
HELPFUL HINTS
- CPT Codes: These are billable codes for a procedure that is performed in the office. For example: 99213= Office Visit, low complexity
- ICD-9: These are the codes that identify the patient’s diagnosis. For example: 277.9= Metabolic Disorder
- Keep in mind that supplements used for in-home treatment DO NOT HAVE A CPT CODE, AND MOST LIKELY WILL NOT BE COVERED. However, some medical savings accounts will cover these with a letter of “medical necessity.”
WHEN CALLING YOUR INSURANCE COMPANY
- Always have a copy of the claim you have submitted
- Have patient's ID # and Group # available
- Have the dates of services that are in question and dollar amount billed
- Have our office information available
